Ogi: Designing and Implementing a Business Continuity Solution

About Ogi:

Ogi is a leading Internet Service Provider and Managed Services Provider in South Wales. Kai worked at Ogi from 2014 to 2016, having supported large clients such as BidFresh, Renewable Energy Services, British Board of Agrement and Keltbray Construction, Kai gained exposure to a large variety of IT environments and a keen understanding of differing client needs as well as a comprehensive understanding of WAN technologies.

The Problem

Ogi’s business continuity solution for their multi-tenanted private cloud was overdue for review, the company needing to ensure continuity of service in case of planned and unplanned grid outages it needed both a review of the capacity of the business continuity solution as well as a test to ensure that it was fully functional. Kai took on the responsibility on to make load calculations, establish estimated run-times and work with suppliers to facilitate the installation of a backup generator.

The Solution

Kai carried out an audit of the electrical supply for the entire private cloud datacenter, investigating loads and categorizing critical and non-critical services. He worked with the owner of the site to obtain authorization to utilize a GE SitePro UPS that was able to provide 6 hours runtime in the event of a grid outage whilst also working with electrical suppliers to facilitate the installation of a generator to ensure continuity of service for mission critical loads for an indefinite period of time. As part of this he designed a plan to carry out in the case of a grid failure which was circulated with other engineers.

The Result

Ogi suffered a 24 hour grid outage after this plan was designed, thanks to the business continuity solutions implemented by Kai, there was no measurable impact to clients. This allowed clients to continue to receive and process sales and ensure there was no interruption to their business.
